Tripp Lite’s New Ethernet Patch Cables Offer Protection Against Bacteria
Posted on Tuesday, December 8, 2020

Chicago, IL (December 8, 2020)—Tripp Lite, a global manufacturer of power protection and connectivity solutions, helps bring peace of mind to anyone who handles Ethernet cables frequently. The new Cat6a Ethernet patch cables feature antibacterial properties to provide extra protection in medical facilities, schools, businesses, food service environments and other locations where bacteria is a concern. The cables are the latest addition to Tripp Lite’s Safe-IT™ product group.

The jacket, connectors and plugs on Tripp Lite’s new Cat6a Ethernet cables have antibacterial properties, making them 99.9% effective in inhibiting Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (staph). Rated for 10G networks, the antibacterial cables are available in three different constructions: UTP (unshielded twisted pair), slim UTP and S/FTP (shielded and foiled twisted pair). The slim cables are smaller in diameter than standard Cat6a cables to increase airflow and reduce cable clutter in crowded racks and patch panels. The S/FTP cables support Power over Ethernet (PoE) to power compatible devices.

"Handling cables can expose installers to bacteria, especially when the cables are frequently touched," said David Posner, Vice President of Product Marketing, Connectivity. "Tripp Lite’s antibacterial Cat6a cables help offer protection from E.coli and staph while connecting a variety of equipment, including computers and VoIP phones, to an Ethernet network."
