ADA Compliance & Classroom Furniture
Posted on Tuesday, April 21, 2020

Spectrum Industries is a leader in classroom furniture that satisfies criteria defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act, or ADA. The ADA is a federal civil rights law that applies to nearly all public places and businesses, including schools, restaurants, libraries and event venues. Its purpose is to protect the rights of Americans with disabilities by incorporating requirements that support making nearly any product, service or place as accessible to as many people as possible.

ADA compliance for K-12 schools, colleges and universities presents multiple items to address, ranging from access to technology to furniture for higher learning. Spectrum Industries answers the call by offering products that provide flexibility for both instructors and students.

For example, The Freedom One eLift, Freedom XRS Elite and the new Pivot Premier allow the versatility for instructors to sit or stand in the classroom as well as meet ADA requirements for clearance and reach.

Our Flex Insight desk is designed to provide classroom flexibility for computer labs but also meets ADA requirements for students without having to isolate a single user in a certain location. Our Slim AV Credenza helps satisfy ADA criteria for monitors that protrude further than 4” from the wall.

In addition, fixed classroom tables must meet a number of clearance requirements. Their clearance width must meet adequate minimum requirements for one or two wheelchair users. Height and depth for knees must also measure accordingly. For example both the Optio Collaboration Table and InVision Access Nano Table are designed to support multiple users but still accommodate a wheelchair and provide ample clearance and reach to items on the surface.
