Ottawa, Canada, March 9, 2022 – Founded in 1989, Bond University is Australia's first private not-for-profit university and is based in Robina, Queensland, on Australia's famous Gold Coast. The thriving Film and TV Bachelor program focuses on magazine, sports/OB and awards/gala style events when teaching Studio production, Bond's three-camera studio has been in constant use since its launch. Wanting to remain current and up to date, James Alexander, Senior Technical Officer, and Steven Guttormsen, Technology & Teaching Support Manager, turned to Ross for assistance.
"Our studio is very busy, and we operate a three-semester-per-year timetable which obviously gives students the chance to complete their studies and enter the workforce more quickly," notes Steven Guttormsen. "That means we need to arm students with the latest skills and techniques and expose them to the latest solutions and technologies." With the studio's production switcher reaching the end of its life, the team at Bond invested in a new Carbonite switcher and TD2 panel which is being controlled via DashBoard – the touchscreen-enabled control interface that is available without charge from Ross. "Ross has become increasingly visible in our region," comments James Alexander, "and we were obviously aware of the Carbonite switcher because of its international popularity. Moving to a Ross-centric workflow makes a lot of sense for us because we'll be looking to update our media asset management tools in future, and I can see a lot of value in us adding additional Ross solutions to our facilities."
With a compressed timescale for installation and the Bond team looking to keep studio downtime to a minimum, Guttormsen is also complimentary about the way in which Ross managed the project. "The regional team here in Australia have been terrific," he enthuses. "From letting us have a demo unit for evaluation to answering all our questions quickly and enabling us to install our new switcher, ready to go within 48 hours of delivery, it's been a first-class experience. If anyone is thinking about partnering with Ross, I'd say go for it! You'll get the best personal attention and support. It also makes practical sense for us too – equipping our studio with Ross gives our students a distinct advantage in the workplace when they graduate as more of the industry adopts Ross and creates workflows based around their solutions. I'm 100% satisfied that this project is good for us, good for our students and good for their employment prospects in the future."
"It's been tremendously rewarding to see the partnership between Ross Oceania staff and Bond staff and students in their adoption of the Carbonite production switcher. The ease-of-use of the Carbonite was an ideal fit for their application." said Amanda Leighton, Ross Director, Sales – Oceania. "We look forward to the continued relationship with Bond as they update and develop their production facility and workflow."
