Chilefilms Chooses Ross for New Regional Studio Hub

Ottawa, Canada, January 26th 2021 – The South American broadcast market has seen many changes over the last decade, with new channels and platforms springing up and challenging the established brands. Santiago-based Chilefilms has been operating in Chile for over thirty years and so is used to the dynamic and fast-paced nature of the market. However, the coming together of two of their existing sports broadcast customers in 2019 – ESPN and Fox – opened up an opportunity that Chilefilms could not ignore.

"We are a complete production services partner in the region," notes Juan Carlos Arriagada Mons, General Manager of Chilefilms. "We have seven studios, a dedicated post-production department, we offer equipment rental and look after a number of very high-profile international brands. We represent Disney in Chile, for example, and so we need to offer the highest levels of technical and service quality." With the restructuring of both ESPN and Fox in Chile, it was clear that Chilefilms would need to respond with an all-new facility that could manage live domestic content for these customers along with international feeds arriving via satellite that could be regionalized with commercials, local presenters and guests. As an existing Ross customer, Chilefilms knew who to call first. "We’ve worked with Ross for a number of years, and we were actually the first company to use Ross equipment in Chile," reminisces Arriagada Mons. "We’ve always had a very positive relationship with Ross, and their products always seem to reflect our need for workflow flexibility and high performance at a reasonable price."

The new control room is based around a Carbonite production switcher and Ultrix 12G platform for AV processing, with a variety of other Ross signal processing and infrastructure products to help with system configuration and monitoring. "The most remarkable thing," says Arriagada Mons, "is that we pulled this whole project together in around fifty days. We had tremendous training and after-sales support from the Ross team, and every deliverable date and deadline was hit. Our customers have been incredibly impressed with the end result and that, ultimately, is what matters most."

Jason Barden, Director for Sales, picks up on the issue of flexibility. "Our customers are working in an environment where everyone is under pressure to do more for less. Our long-standing relationship with Chilefilms proves that when you deliver what customers want, they treat you as a trusted partner and everyone succeeds."
