Highlights

  • Integrated DVB-T2 transmission solution honored for technological innovation at IBC2011
  • Industry's first complete, integrated DVB-T2 solution makes revenue-generating opportunities of DVB-T2 accessible to any broadcaster
  • Recent field-strength tests prove Harris DVB-T2 signal superiority

MELBOURNE, FL/DENVER, October, 2011 — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, is demonstrating market leadership in its support of the DVB-T2 digital standard, which allows a more efficient use of terrestrial spectrum, enabling broadcasters to deliver a wealth of new digital services to both fixed and mobile consumer devices.

IBC2011 in Amsterdam, Harris demonstrated the broadcast industry's only complete, integrated DVB-T2 solution for digital terrestrial transmission, comprising a compact video headend, test and measurement equipment and digital transmitters. The solution received TV Technology Europe magazine's 2011 STAR (Superior Technology Award Recipient) Award, designed to celebrate preeminent technological innovations available to the broadcast industry.

The Harris DVB-T2 solution offers broadcasters many benefits. Selenio™, the industry's most compact video headend with integrated DVB-T2 gateway, eliminates the need to source a third-party, standalone gateway and manage potential interoperability issues; space-saving MSA Series test equipment with a DVB-T2 option enables real-time monitoring of multiple channels in a 1RU package; and an offer of highly efficient DVB-T2 transmitters ranging from 5 W to 28 kW reduces operating costs and ensures true interoperability throughout the workflow.

"While deploying DVB-T2 systems gives broadcasters numerous benefits, they also face a number of challenges, such as managing the considerable complexity of such an implementation," said Harris Morris, president, Harris Broadcast Communications. "Harris is the only manufacturer today that is able to provide a complete, easy-to-deploy, integrated transmission solution that makes the revenue-generating opportunities of DVB-T2 accessible to any broadcaster."

In previous DVB-T2 technology innovations, Harris was the only company at last year's IBC event able to demonstrate a complete production-to-broadcast workflow solution for 3D over DVB-T2 transmission. In addition, the company's Maxiva™ UAX TV transmitter was awarded highest marks during recent competitive field-strength studies and DVB-T to DVB-T2 signal tests. Conducted by Kazakhstan's national broadcaster in preparation for its transition to DTV, tests conclusively proved that the DVB-T2 signal broadcasts using the Maxiva transmitter provided a higher bit rate for more efficient use of spectrum when compared to those of the competition.

Harris offers end-to-end, integrated transmission solutions for all major digital transmission standards, including ATSC and ISDB-Tb, enabling broadcasters around the world to quickly and affordably launch revenue-generating digital services.

In broadcast communications, Harris offers products, systems and services that provide interoperable workflow solutions for broadcast, cable, satellite and out-of-home networks. The Harris ONE™ solution brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that enable advanced media workflows for emerging content delivery business models.
