Contemporary Research 232-ATSC+ HDTV Tuner Adds Integrator Requested Features
Posted on Tuesday, March 1, 2011

Contemporary Research has replaced its popular 232-ATSC tuner with the 232-ATSC+ HDTV tuner which includes all the performance of the 232-ATSC, plus new features requested by AV integrators.

The new 232-ATSC+ takes less time to install, occupies less space, and consumes 25 percent less power, according to Contemporary Research President Scott Hetzler.

"All the features we developed over the past six years are included in the 232-ATSC+ and the unit is fully compatible with all programmer and manufacturer software control modules. Its technology is even backwards-compatible,” he said.

To simplify installation, the new SmartScan© technology automatically removes encrypted cable channels when scanning, eliminating the need to manually delete channels that cannot be seen. To simplify setup, the 232-ATSC+ includes access to on-screen menus from the front panel, making the use of the IR remote an option instead of a requirement.

“The SmartScan© feature works so well that we are offering a software update that adds it to existing 232-ATSC tuners,” Hetzler stated.

The 232-ATSC+ is more efficient than its predecessor. The unit racks in the same 2RU space as the previous model, so rack diagrams don’t need to change. However, the tuner’s lower profile can take advantage of CR’s novel 1½ rack kit where four tuners can be mounted in three rack spaces. In addition, the 232-ATSC+ uses one third less power than its predecessor.

“We’re well known for our tech support, and we pay careful attention to what our integrators say, and what they face at the job site,” Hetzler concluded.
