Aberdeen has engineered its Stirling W51 workstation for high-powered, professional computing and visualization environments. Its 5U form factor houses the workstation, storage, peripherals and a host of standard features. Employing next-generation Dual Intel Xeon E5 processors, the Stirling W51 provides support for up to 24 processing cores, along with the highest quality professional graphics.
E5-2600 v2 Xeon ProcessorsThe Intel Xeon processor E5-2600 v2 product family provides 50 percent more cores and cache than the previous generation, along with faster memory and additional hardware enhancements for virtualization. These innovations deliver up to 35 percent higher performance on average over previous generation Intel Xeon processor-based servers across a broad range of benchmarks.
Faster I/O ConnectivityThe new Stirling W51 workstation features PCI-E 3.0 slots. PCI-E 3.0 provides double the available bandwidth of PCI-E 2.0. Next generation PCI-E 3.0 controllers and adapters can attain much faster speeds. Expansion slots are important for add-on cards such as GbE or 10GbE network interface controllers and 16Gb or 8Gb Fibre Channel adapters for storage expansion. The new Stirling W51 features 4 unoccupied expansion slots.
On-set and Near-set Post-production and Dailies EnvironmentsWith its unveiling, Aberdeen revolutionizes the handling of 2K and 4K video files in the on-set and near-set post-production and dailies environments. The transition to Digital Acquisition is accelerating. While there are many software applications developed for the management and manipulation of digital files on-set, until now there has been little hardware development specific to the unique requirements of On-Set/Near-Set Dailies. Aberdeen listened to media and entertainment computer users, surveyed the established deployed systems and developed this smaller, highly cost- effective and extremely powerful new platform. Traditionally, media editing and dallies data management has been performed on a powerful workstation connected to a direct attached storage (DAS). That was the default way to manipulate and play large 2K or 4K files in real time. The Stirling W51 system combines both, thus eliminating the need for a separate DAS.
