Telex RadioCom upgrades for FARGODOME & NDSU

(Fargo, ND – October 6th, 2009) Telex RadioCom intercom systems are providing an optimal balance of user-friendliness and excellent audio quality at two new installations in Fargo, ND.

“NDSU is now using the “Lombardi” system, comprising the BTR-1, the FM-1 intercom system manager, IC-100 & IC-6SX source assignment panels, PS-4001 & PS-2001 power supplies and an ALP-700 base station antenna. They have eight BTR-1s, two IC-6SXs, one FM-1 and two IC-100s; one in the field and one in the booth. For FARGODOME we specified eight BTR-1s, an FM-1, two IC-6SXs and two PS-2001s. That system also features rack-mounted ALP-450 UHF directional antennas mounted to the roof of the press box.

“At NDSU, the system is used exclusively for coaching communications during football games,” Stasch adds. “They’re utilizing the frequency manager system which allows them to be very frequency agile compared to their old system. They have six lines of audio or intercom along with three buttons for the different channels. The IC-6SXs allows the equipment manager to change intercom lines on the fly instead of having to go through the software. That really gives them a tremendous level of flexibility.

“The FARGODOME system is used for many different applications. They host a lot of concerts, high school sports tournaments, rodeos and many different events besides football games; they needed frequency agile critical communications for lighting productions and sound productions as well as for the coaches. And, if NDSU’s opponent doesn’t have adequate coaching communications, they can use this equipment, making it much easier to control the frequency environment inside the venue. The Telex equipment is also used for high school football, like the state tournament happening on November 14 and 15th. Normally, during a college game, the home team (NDSU) uses their system, the visiting teamuses all eight BTR-1 systems; for high school games, each team gets four headsets.

“Both clients love their new systems. They are worry-free with regard to the new FCC frequency issues und and the audio quality is ten times better than their previous systems. User-friendliness is important; configuring the frequency manager and SMP software takes less time to complete before a game. Now all they have to do is download the frequency or frequencies, turn on the beltpacks and they’re ready to go.

“We’ve been specifying this system (Lombardi/BTR-1) for about three years now, and we love using them. There are so many flexible options available compared to older systems; for example, you can choose whatever settings you want very easily with the digital display, whereas the old ones were all analog and you had to use a screwdriver to adjust them. The whole installation only took a couple of hours.”
